The dating app puts up a billboard in Times Square to help women

Dating is really hard. Especially for people over 30. As someone who’s been through it, I can honestly attest that it feels like a full-time job. Dating apps are time consuming – you have to create an alluring profile, choose the best pictures that represent you and make sure your intentions are clear. Usually you do this for more than one dating app at a time. Forget the emotional and time investment it takes to go to the apps and find an actual date. Your thumb gets tired from all the swiping left and right. No wonder some just give up.

Sha Tabb was such a woman. She decided enough was enough and deleted all her dating apps. But then her friends intervened. They took matters into their own hands to find a date for their friend, a former NFL cheerleader who now works as a traffic reporter. And Tabb absolutely let her do it.

“My dating life feels nonexistent,” Tabb told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview. “For a while it didn’t bother me that I didn’t go out. I was on a few apps, I went on dates and then the guys spooked me. I was like, ‘Okay, this isn’t, ‘It doesn’t work for me. I know it’s worked for a lot of other people, but it just doesn’t work for me.’ So I got rid of the apps.”

Her friend Jacqui Duran, who Tabb met about 11 years ago when they worked together, heard about an app called Wingman after reading a story about a woman whose mother used the app to create a profile for her. During her birthday dinner, Duran, along with another friend and former collaborator, Sheri Ralliford, pitched Tabb the idea of allowing her to take charge of her dating life. Tabb agreed to let her friends do the heavy lifting of dates for a while.

Sha Tabb’s friends created a dating profile for her through the Wingman app.

Wingman app

In February, the friends created Tabb’s profile on Wingman in hopes of finding her boyfriend’s love. Some time later, Wingman CEO Tina Wilson found Tabb’s profile and had the team turn it into a 48-foot billboard in Times Square. The billboard was installed on May 3rd and will run until June 19th. Wilson explained to PEOPLE that Tabb’s story “shows that you can be beautiful inside and out and even a professional cheerleader and still struggle to find the right partner.”

It’s absolutely insane to imagine what it must be like to have your dating profile aired in Times Square of all places. Tabb has accepted everything so far.

“I’ve modeled in the past, so I’ve had my face on things, but I usually do other stuff promoting people or other products. Now I’m promoting myself,” she said.

This is all so amazing, but where did Wingman even come from? The dating app was created by Tina Wilson at a time when she was single and her friends were all fairly married. As the self-proclaimed “cupid,” Wilson wanted to put her skills to good use. “The ability to help our friends find someone is a very deep-seated instinct for many, many people, and I wanted to provide a constructive outlet for that desire,” she says on her website.

Sha Tabb has a profile on Wingman where her friends are trying to find her a date.

And that’s exactly what Wingman is – you give your friends control of your love life (but only if you trust them, of course!). You are in full control, they write your profile and tell people why they should date you. And then they can decide who you end up dating.

“Wingman lets those you know best decide who you want to date,” the company’s website reads. Additionally, the app “aims to bring friends closer and redefine the online dating game” by allowing friends to create profiles rather than the individual themselves.

Tabb has no doubts that her friends will find someone great for her – their friendship is strong enough that she thinks they know who to date. “They are completely my wing women and my matchmakers,” she said.

We hope her friends find her someone (or people) who are a perfect match for her.
